“It was updated earlier in 2017 by the criminals when certain aspects were defeated. The ransomware was called “Petya” and the updated version “Petrwrap”-Andrei Barysevich,a spokesperson for security firm told to BBC.
Infected computers display a message demanding to payment of $300 in Bitcoin to get access to encrypted files back. Petya was previously affected systems in 2016 and works similarly to the Wannacry ransomware that infected more two lakh (200,000) computers last month.
Ukrainian central bank,Aircraft manufacturer Antonov, and postal service were also affected by ransomware.
What is Petya/Petrwap?
Petya is a type of ransomware which appeared in early 2016,firstly seen in early 90s.In Petya, criminals attack the operating system instead of encrypting the files on system.
Petrawap is detectable by antivirus. It affect Master File Table, shortly called MFT,of the operating systems. MFT is very important to run system,so the affection on MFT has the same effect like encrypting files.
MFT attack is much faster than encrypting each files separately.
